Making a Non-Slip Bathroom Area

Statistics from the US National Safety Council (NSC) show that 90 percent of all slip and fall accidents in the bathroom are related to older people and young children.  Most of these injuries can easily be prevented if certain safety features are added to reduce the risk of slipping in the bathtub and on tiled floors. The high risk of slipping and falling in the bathtub and the bathroom can be reduced by creating a non-slip bathroom area. Here are some ways in which you can make your bathroom a safer and non-slip place:

Non-slip Self Adhesive Bathtub Mat

Non-slip bathtub mats are known to dramatically reduce the risk of slipping and falling in the bathtub. Self-adhesive bathtub mats are easy to use, peel and stick product that is made of bio-poly vinyl. Bio-poly vinyl is a material that resists mildew growth, and it can be installed permanently within a matter of minutes.

This mat is different from the suction-type as these self-adhesive mats do not slide around the tub, and they can also be used on refinished bathtubs.

These mats will remain stuck to the floor of the bathtub for up to 3 years, and they are known to have more than eight times the slip resistance as compared to suction type bathtub mats.

Non-slip Treatment for Porcelain Bathtubs and Tiled Floors

Today there are many types of non-slip treatments available. Non-slip treatment refers to a mild etching product that creates an anti-slip surface on your bathtub floor and the tiles of the bathroom. The products are invisible and will not spoil the overall look of your bathroom. The non-slip properties of the product become activated once the surface of the bathroom or bathtub gets wet.

Area Rugs

Another easy option of reducing the chances of slipping in the bathroom is to put area rugs on the tiled bathroom floors. Keep in mind that the backside of these rugs needs to be made out of a non-slip material. If you are using bathroom rugs for safety purposes, then make sure to install them in places where you are most likely to slip, such as the area where you step out of the bathtub or shower, and in places that are most likely to get wet, such as near the sink.

These rugs are washable, which means you can keep using them for a long time. Just make sure to check the backside of these rugs for deterioration periodically.

There are housekeeping steps you can take to reduce the chances of getting injured in the bathroom. Do not leave clothes and wet towels lying around, clear up any toys that children have lying around, and unplug any electrical appliances that are not in use.

The bathroom does not need to be a dangerous place if you take the proper precautions and turn your bathroom into a non-slip area.
