Bath mats are a great extra layer of safety to have, but make sure you don’t get one with suction cups. Suction cups on bath mats could pull off the finish from your bathtub when the matt slides or is moved. Additionally, the suction on these mats keeps the mat to0 close to the tub, it really traps water in there and it quickly gets gross, things like mildew will build up in no time. It’s hard to get mildew up without causing any damage to the refinishing on your tub. It is also not advisable to hang your towels or bath mats on the side of the bathtub to dry as the water can encourage mold formation as well.
So when it comes down to it, you just want to use common sense. Clean whenever you need to, don’t use anything abrasive, and your tub should last you for a very long time to come!
